Ringed Planet Pin

I love making little LGBTQIA+ items, and I love space. For these pins I decided to combine the two. As always, you can of course choose any colors you like instead.

Steps

Yarn weight: super fine in five colors (A, B, C, D, E)

Hook size: 2.5 mm

Additional material: A pin or brooch backing with two or three holes.

Abbreviations (US crochet terms)

  • ch chain
  • sc single crochet
  • sc inc single crochet increase (two single crochets in the same stitch)
  • sl st slip stitch
  • st stitch

In the pictures, I used yarn in the colors of the five stripe lesbian pride flag: tigerlilly orange (A), marigold orange (B), white (C), hot pink (D), and magenta (E).

Start in color C.

R1: In a magic ring (leave a long tail), ch1, 6sc, join with the ch. (6)

R2: ch1, sc inc x6, join using color B. (12)

From here on out, work all stitches into the back loop only (BLO), unless noted otherwise.

R3: ch, (sc, sc inc) x3, switch to color E, (sc, sc inc) x3, join using color A. (18)

R4: ch, (sc, sc inc, sc) x3, switch to color E, ch, (sc, sc inc, sc) x3. (24)

Break the yarn and weave in the ends. For a nicer finish of color E, create a fake stitch with a tapestry needle by going through the back loop of the next stitch from the front, and then into the top of the last sc. Then weave in the remaining tail.

Turn the project around and attach color D to the back of R3, near one end of color B.

ch 24, attach to the other end of color B, sc into the bottom loops of the chains, then break the yarn, leaving a long tail.

Sew the ring onto the front of the project, and then attach the pin/brooch backing.
